Feudi di San Gregorio Goleto, Greco di Tufo Riserva DOCG 2022, 0,75 l

Greco di Tufo has a great deal to offer – and the Goleto Greco di Tufo Riserva DOCG 2022 from Tenute Capaldo (part of the Feudi estate) impressively demonstrates the potential of this ancient grape variety. The grapes come from selected vineyards in the San Paolo area near Tufo, specifically from the Contrade Nassano, Laura and Cicogna. Here, at an altitude of 300 to 400 metres above sea level, the vines grow in the immediate vicinity of the old sulphur mines that make this area so special.

After being harvested by hand, the Greco is fermented in stainless steel. It is then given plenty of time to develop: around 80 per cent of the wine matures for a year in oak, whilst the remaining 20 per cent is aged in amphorae. This is followed by a further year of bottle ageing. The result is a far cry from a straightforward summer white wine.

On the nose, the Goleto is complex, revealing ripe apple, peach and citrus fruit, complemented by floral notes, subtle toasted aromas and a hint of almond. On the palate, it is powerful and creamy, whilst the typical freshness of Greco ensures a really good flow. Added to this is a salty, mineral character that makes the wine exciting and gives it a long finish.

A truly excellent accompaniment to grilled fish, shellfish or a hearty seafood pasta dish. It also pairs wonderfully with white meat or mature cheeses. And one thing’s for sure: this is a white wine that can easily be cellared for a few years.
