Château Cos d’Estournel 2eme Cru 2017, 0,75 L

Unlike many other wineries, Cos d’Estournel was spared the frost of 2017, a fact that clearly makes this an exceptional vintage.

With only 13% alcohol, it conveys the impression of a true old school Bordeaux, as was often the case many years ago. This restraint, however, does not diminish the wine’s power or finesse.

In the glass, it shows a dark garnet red colour with a delicate violet rim that brightens at the edge. The nose is wonderful, offering abundant dark berries, preserved plums and subtle smoky notes. Almost ethereal floral nuances emerge as well, creating a truly fascinating aromatic profile.

On the palate, it is taut yet very elegant, supported by very ripe, silky tannins. Still highly youthful, it is already beginning to reveal its considerable potential. The finish is endlessly long.

This wine will likely enter its first great drinking window in five to eight years. That said, even the very impatient can open a bottle now without disappointment.
