Description
With his Grüner Veltliner "Little Sister" from the Handwerk line, Leo Sommer once again proves his finesse with this variety. A clear, natural wine matured for an extended period on the fine lees, in both large wooden barrels and concrete eggs. “Little Sister” is just that: the playful, younger sibling to Leo’s more serious “Salz und Rauch” Grüner Veltliner. From younger vines and with a cheekier character, not as deep, but still a remarkably refined white.
In the glass: a muted yet clear green-gold hue. On the nose and palate, herbs and spices take the lead. Bone dry and wonderfully juicy, with delicate tannins adding structure. It’s not a crowd-pleaser in the conventional sense, but a pure, unfiltered expression that unfolds slowly and rewards your patience. Serve it not too cold and give it a bit of air, and the subtle salty note on the finish will rise beautifully.
