Description
This single vineyard represents a Brunello that is defined less by power and more by precision, depth and inner tension. Fior di Meliloto is considered the most floral and fruit-driven cru from Corte Pavone, and it is exactly this refined side of Sangiovese that is expressed so clearly here. Elegant, structured and composed, the wine shows in an impressive way what biodynamic work and a strong sense of origin can achieve.
In the glass, it shines in a deep ruby red with garnet reflections. The nose is concentrated and pure, revealing juicy cherry, delicate floral notes, a touch of cinnamon, mineral nuances and a hint of dried earth. It is very focused and still youthful, yet already shows remarkable depth. On the palate, it is full and dense, clearly structured and precise. The tannins are fine-grained and present, giving the wine backbone without any hardness. Everything is shaped around balance and longevity.
Even the name tells its own story. Fior di Meliloto translates as flower of melilot. It stands for floral elegance and fine fruit, exactly the qualities that make this cru so distinctive within the Corte Pavone vineyards. A name that captures the character of the wine with great accuracy.
The ageing process is just as thoughtful as it is detailed. The wine first matures for twelve months in used 700 litre tonneaux, followed by another twelve months in large wooden barrels. It then spends twelve months in concrete tanks and a further twelve months in steel tanks. This long and carefully staged maturation builds structure, depth and precision while preserving freshness and elegance.
The 2019 vintage offered ideal conditions. A mild winter, a relatively cool spring and a consistently warm summer without drought stress allowed slow and complete ripening. Some rain in September added freshness, and the grapes were harvested at the end of September under optimal conditions.
A Brunello for those who are patient. With a few more years in the cellar, it will gain further complexity and expression and reveal its full potential. A great single-vineyard Brunello from Montalcino for anyone who wishes to experience the wine in its most refined and elegant form.
