For us, this is one of the best Grüner Veltliners in the country, while clearly expressing the character of the Leithaberg. James Suckling awards it 97 points and ranks it among the best white wines in Austria.

Himmelreich is the name of the vineyard that Leo Sommer and his colleagues from the Donnerskirchen wine quartet revitalised many years ago. It is an ancient vineyard that was abandoned in the 1950s because the new tractors at the time could no longer manage the steep slope. It later became overgrown and was rediscovered by chance during a hike.

Today, the uniqueness of both the wine and the site can be experienced with all the senses. This great Grüner Veltliner was matured in wooden barrels and has remarkable power and depth, making every sip a true pleasure. It is creamy and elegant, with herbal spice and exotic hints on the nose. On the palate, it is juicy, mineral and complex, with fine extract sweetness. It lingers for a long time on the finish and leaves a subtle salty note. A multi-layered experience on the palate.

A perfect companion to food that benefits from a little air in the glass and also has excellent ageing potential.
