Some wines do not really need any introduction. This Primitivo from Apulia is definitely one of them. It has been one of the absolute favourites of many wine lovers for years, and for good reason. You get a lot of flavour for your money.

In the glass, this southern Italian wine shows an intense ruby red colour with lively reflections. The nose is dominated by juicy red berries, complemented by fine vanilla notes and a hint of roasted aromas from the wood.

On the palate, the wine is wonderfully accessible. Juicy, round and full of fruit, the first sip glides smoothly over the tongue. Ageing in American barriques adds further flavour and a beautiful aromatic depth. At the same time, a present but well-balanced acidity provides the freshness that a Primitivo needs.

The tannins are ripe and velvety, giving this red wine a harmonious character and a very pleasant drinking flow. This combination is exactly what makes it such a popular choice.

This Apulian wine pairs particularly well with pizza, pasta or savoury oven dishes. It also shows on its own in a large glass why it has been so popular for years.
