Description

Many people associate wines from Apulia with a lot of alcohol, power, endless tannins and possibly a hint of residual sugar. We'd agree that the sun in southern Italy favours ripe grapes and the associated alcohol content, but there is another way, more accessible and charming, as Varvaglione's Series 12 e Mezzo shows.

Despite only 12.5% ABV, this Negroamaro is a fully-fledged and well-structured wine. However, it remains on the fresh and accessible side, making a perfect accompaniment to food or, in the summer, better slightly chilled.

After fermentation, the wine spends between 3 and 6 months in French barrels, providing a delicate touch of vanilla in addition to the typical red fruit aromas. It's balanced, round and soft on the palate, with present red fruit, very ripe tannins and pleasant acidity. There's also a gentle sweetness, which makes it more accessible and a touch more enjoyable to drink.

Great with simpler dishes, such as classic home cooking or antipasti, and perfect for every occasion. Cheers!
