Domäne Wachau
Austria / Wachau / Loiben
Domäne Wachau is characterised by constant striving for the very best quality, new ways in the vineyard, excellent know-how in winemaking and a desire for further development, making it one of the best white wine estates in Austria.
Under winery manager and Master of Wine Roman Horvath and cellar master Heinz Frischengruber, Domäne Wachau (formerly "Freie Weingärten Wachau") has developed into one of the leading pioneering wineries in the region. Singerriedel, Achleiten, Kellerberg and Loibenberg are representative of the abundance of top locations that are managed by the winegrowing families who contribute to Domäne Wachau wines. Tribute is paid to the steepness and height of the terraces, and hand-picking and targeted selection are the basis for perfect grapes. The result is a unique spectrum of different Veltliners and Rieslings that do justice to the diversity of the great Wachau vineyards and have long amazed the international wine world.
Domäne Wachau is a member of the "Vinea Wachau", the Wachau regional protection association, and produces wines in the Wachau quality categories Steinfeder, Federspiel and Smaragd.
Domäne Wachau is one of the largest wine-growing companies in Austria and operates exclusively in the premium segment. After successful, qualitative realignment, Domäne Wachau is one of the best white wine producers in Austria.
In the vineyard as well as in the cellar, Domäne Wachau is uncompromising on quality. Cooperation with grape producers has significantly improved in recent years, a vineyard quality programme has already been largely implemented and musts and wines in the cellar are carefully treated to guarantee precise and clear wines.
Domän Wachau (especially with the terrace and single-vineyard wines) never produces overloaded or alcoholic wines. Instead, they focus on fruit with a firm minerality that is shaped by the primary rock soil. Finesse is more important than lushness and so the wines - both very drinkable and with a captivating elegance - also present themselves as ideal dishes.
Domäne Wachau tries to ensure that the wines are as authentic as possible. The Wachau terroir and individual vineyards should be expressed precisely and clearly.
As a meta goal of the company, Domäne Wachau strives for a fair grape price for its members that corresponds to the difficult working conditions in the Wachau. The arduous work in the terrace areas and the preservation of the cultural landscape should be compensated. All measures and efforts are subordinate to this goal and are carried out through a persuasive quality policy.
