One of the finest Blaufränkisch wines in the country, awarded 98+ points and named an A la Carte winner, with 97 points from Falstaff.

This is a red wine that needs little introduction in Austria. Hochberc is now an icon, known for consistent top quality and enormous ageing potential. A true Blaufränkisch benchmark, no more and no less. And no, the name is not a spelling mistake. The Hochberg vineyard in Deutschkreutz was once spelled with a “c” at the end, and Albert Gesellmann has adopted this historic version as a unique selling point.

Still young in its new 2022 vintage. After 40 days on the skins, the Blaufränkisch was matured for a full 30 months in 500-litre oak barrels. It is certainly still youthful and only at the beginning of its long journey, with enormous potential ahead. Even now, it is perfectly balanced between fruit sweetness and acidity, with an incredible sense of tension on the palate. Delicately salty, with subtle chocolaty notes and a never-ending, long finish.

Albert Gesellmann is among the very best in Austria when it comes to handling Blaufränkisch in wooden barrels, giving this wine exactly the right touch. Simply world-class.
