Grauburgunder, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Gris—these names all refer to a grape variety that is wonderfully versatile, showing a completely different character depending on where it is grown. As a light and pleasant Pinot Grigio, it is enjoyed daily by many holidaymakers in Italy, often without much thought to what is actually in their glass.

This dry organic Pinot Gris from the “Gleisweiler Hölle” first vineyard, however, is of a completely different calibre. To truly appreciate it, you need to know the variety, because here it can truly shine. The combination of the Palatinate’s barren limestone and sandstone soils with skilful oak ageing gives the wine remarkable body and complexity.

The 2022 vintage is particularly impressive, even surpassing the 2020 vintage. On the nose, it is fresh and vibrant, with aromas of ripe apple, citrus notes of orange and grapefruit, and delicate floral hints. The palate is powerful yet creamy, supported by a lively acidity that is often missing in many Pinot Gris wines. Flavours of mango, nuts, and subtle smoke from the oak barrel add further depth, leading into a long, satisfying finish.

This wine is immediately pleasurable in the glass, yet it also has potential to develop further. Versatile at the table, it pairs beautifully with a wide range of dishes.
