Description

A truly outstanding and ready-to-drink Riesling Lagen Smaragd from the 2014 vintage—stored at the estate for 10 years before this late release, and strictly limited. Otherwise, it would no longer be available!

The Loibenberg is legendary in its own right and the largest contiguous single vineyard in the Wachau. Its character is shaped by the bare, rugged primary rock, interspersed in places with loess deposits carried into sheltered hollows. Over 500 million years, immense pressure forged gneiss that has weathered into today’s primary rock soils. This is the foundation on which Riesling from the Loibenberg develops its trademark delicacy, elegance, and subtle minerality. On the highest stone terraces, the late-ripening grapes benefit from long hang time, yielding wines of remarkable fruit precision, depth, and piquancy. Few descriptions fit better than: precise, structured, deeply fruited, and eloquent.

On the nose, this Riesling reveals herbal spice, dark minerality, and ripe yellow tropical fruit. Perfectly matured yet still vibrant—neither muted nor tired. The palate is taut and dry, with an elegant texture, delicate extract sweetness, and layers of white fruit. A fresh acidity drives the lively structure, while fine lemony nuances lead into a long finish with subtle hints of dark stone. Clear as a bell—this is exactly how a great, perfectly matured Wachau Riesling Smaragd should taste.
