Walter Glatzer Organic Merlot Reserve 2020

This dry, powerful red wine displays the typical characteristics of a Merlot and is a delight from the very first sip. Matured for 18 months in barriques (30% new barrels), from the balanced 2020 vintage - perfect conditions for this international red wine variety.

On the nose there are dark, fully ripe berries with a hint of tobacco and delicate mint. It hits the palate with a meaty flavour that demands some fine red meat to go with it. Fiery and warm with a powerful body, it lingers into the long finish. Nuances of "rumtopf", dried plums with a well-integrated woody note create a very harmonious whole. This fine merlot from Carnuntum is still youthful with good ageing potential and at a very fair price.
